Chapter 1: Let's Get Divorced

***

"The pale moonlight of Bao Shen is back."

Soft sunlight filtered through the window into this cold room.

On the pearwood desk lay scattered sleeping pills, and beneath those sleeping pills was a divorce agreement.

Before Nan Huang, there were more than ten diaries, and in her hand was the last one.

A day ago, Nan Huang woke up to find that her surroundings had undergone a huge change. After looking in the mirror and rummaging through the closet, she fell silent for a long time before finally accepting the fact that she had become another woman, Ye Nan Huang.

She didn't inherit the memories of the original owner, but luckily, the original Ye Nan Huang had a habit of writing diaries. After finding Ye Nan Huang's diary, she spent ten hours carefully flipping through page by page.

The original owner, Ye Nan Huang, 22 years old this year, the legitimate daughter of the Ye family in the West City's Ye Shoe Industry, fell in love with Bao Shen, the young master of the West City's Bao family, five years ago. However, Bao Shen also had an unrequited love, Bai Yueguang of the Mu family, Mu Yun.

A year ago, Mu Yun got married abroad. On the second day of Mu Yun's wedding, Bao Shen and Ye Nan Huang hastily got married.

And just yesterday, Ye Nan Huang learned that Mu Yun had returned from her divorce, and it was also yesterday that Bao Shen brought the divorce agreement.

Is there anything else unclear?

Nan Huang looked at the sleeping pills scattered all over the floor and the divorce agreement, and rubbed her forehead.

The original owner, Ye Nan Huang, had been heartbroken and committed suicide by taking pills, and she had just happened to be reborn in the body of a woman with a name that had two characters the same as hers.

Hearing footsteps outside, Ye Nan Huang quickly put away the sleeping pills and diaries. As a result, the two divorce agreements on the desk looked particularly conspicuous.

The bedroom door was rudely pushed open by someone, and it seemed that the man didn't think there was anything wrong with entering his own home like this.

The man adjusted his tie and looked at the woman who had been his wife for a year, raising her head to look at him.

"Nan Huang, Mu Yun is back."

The man's expression was cold, and he spoke these cruel words as if he were commenting on the weather.

Nan Huang considered the possible reactions of the original owner and then nodded to him, "I know, you mentioned it yesterday."

Bao Shen said, "As long as you agree to the divorce, I can give you twenty million and two houses as compensation."

Seeing her lack of reaction, Bao Shen continued, "Dragging this out serves no purpose. If you feel the compensation is not enough, we can negotiate. But in any case, this marriage must end."

Nan Huang furrowed her brow slightly and stood up.

She had a slender figure but had a flaw in her appearance: a coin-sized red birthmark at the corner of her right eye. It was because of this birthmark that Bao Shen found her ugly. In the one year of their marriage, even though Ye Nan Huang lived in the master bedroom and Bao Shen lived in the adjacent guest room, no matter how good she was to him or how she cooked for him every day, he never glanced at her or touched her.

Seeing her frown, Bao Shen also furrowed his brow slightly. "The Ye family in the West City is also a prestigious family. If you feel the compensation is insufficient, it can be doubled."

"Fine," Nan Huang raised the corner of her eyebrow and smiled, "Divorce is fine. But I don't need compensation, whether it's money or houses. If they're in my name, I find them dirty."

Bao Shen's face darkened. "What's your plan? You should know your father... If you don't take these things, your life won't be easy."

"Is this your way of soothing your conscience?" Nan Huang walked to the desk and signed Ye Nan Huang's name on both divorce agreements in front of Bao Shen. Then she tossed one to him.

She already signed? So quickly?

Bao Shen was somewhat surprised. He remembered coming back yesterday and noticing that Ye Nan Huang was on the verge of a breakdown. He didn't want to deal with that emotional state, so he said some hurtful things.

...

"Ye Nan Huang is being bullied, I can't just stand by."

"She's being bullied by others, but what about me?"

Bao Shen's eyes grew colder. "Nan Huang, be more sensible."

She saw his dissatisfaction, and Ye Nan Huang was in despair. "Ashen, please don't leave. I know I'm not good enough, but I'm trying. Bao Shen, please don't hate me. Can't we talk it out?"

Bao Shen's impatience showed in his eyes. "Yun needs me; she's waiting for me. Think it over, we should get a divorce."

"Don't leave, I beg you, give me another chance, please..."

Ye Nan Huang's hysterical crying did not elicit any sympathy from Bao Shen. The home she had worked so hard to maintain for a year seemed to mock her efforts.

Mu Yun was back, and he no longer wanted her.

...

Nan Huang thought, if Bao Shen knew that his departure this time would lead to Ye Nan Huang's suicide, would he still leave?

Bao Shen stared at Nan Huang for a moment.

She should be heartbroken. She should be devastated. She should be begging him not to leave.

He had thought of countless words along the way, and the compensation he had prepared was several times the initial offer.

As long as she agreed, he would give it.

But he didn't expect her to write her name so easily, toss the divorce agreement to him so casually, and even call his compensation "dirty."

She loved him very much; he was sure Ye Nan Huang loved him very much. She loved him more than her own life.

Nan Huang remembered his words earlier and said with a smile, "After we divorce, how I live in the Ye family is none of your concern."

"After all, you were my woman," Bao Shen said coldly. For some reason, at this moment, he felt uncomfortable. "Don't make me lose face."

She was trying to act tough, yes, this woman must be trying to act tough.

"In the year I married into the Bao family, I never used your money," Nan Huang found a suitcase and began to pack her things, most importantly, the more than ten diaries. "Even when we were still married, I never used your things. After I leave, I won't use your things either. Bao Shen, we have no connection, do we?"

Bao Shen suddenly looked up at her, feeling strangely uncomfortable.

She said they had no connection?

These weren't her words; he should be the one saying them.

For the sake of Mu Yun, he had maintained his chastity and had no relationship with Ye Nan Huang.

This was his capital to impress Mu Yun.

"Ye Nan

Huang!" Bao Shen didn't know what emotions were swirling inside him, making him lose his composure for a moment. "You'd better wake up! Without my protection, you are nothing!"

She needed him, yes, she needed him.

How could she not love him, how could she so easily abandon him?

The result of her day-long contemplation, could it be like this?

She should have thought about it. How Ye Nan Huang's father treated her mother, and how he treated the woman outside, not to mention that the woman outside already had a son and a daughter.

Without his help, Ye Nan Huang would have nothing.

Had she not thought of this desperate situation?

Right, these were all her tactics, her attempt to gain his attention.

She was trying to attract his attention in this way.

Bao Shen loosened the tight fist he had been clenching and proudly smiled, looking at her as if victory were assured.

Nan Huang placed the suitcase on the table and looked at him with a strange expression.

The emotions that had welled up in Bao Shen were somewhat inexplicable.

It couldn't be that he had already developed some liking for the original Ye Nan Huang without realizing it, could it?

But that had nothing to do with her.

She was Nan Huang, not Ye Nan Huang. She had come into this body not to steal this man from her.

She urgently needed her freedom, and Bao Shen had conveniently brought the divorce agreement, just like a pillow when you're feeling sleepy.

Both divorce agreements now had both of their signatures on them, so regardless of anything else, this marriage was ending.

"Tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, at the Civil Affairs Bureau," Nan Huang said coldly. "Let's get this divorce over with quickly, and from now on, we'll be strangers to each other."
