Chapter 62: The Xie Family in West City
Even her relationship with Xie Ziran began when they met at Old Lady Bo's birthday banquet.
Xie Yu sighed, her expression downcast. "I have a bit of a conflict with my grandfather. He hasn't expressed a desire to see me; he wants to see you. You can go."
Nan Huang looked at Xie Yu, pondered for a moment, and nodded. "Alright, then I'll go alone."
Xie Yu got up, retrieved two bottles of fine red wine from a nearby cabinet, and stared at the wine with complex emotions for a while. "Nan Huang, your grandfather has a particular taste for this wine. I went through some trouble to get it. It's your first time visiting the ancestral home, so you shouldn't go empty-handed. Take these two bottles of red wine with you."
"Alright," Nan Huang accepted the wine. She intended to bring Xu Qun along, but when she stopped to think, she walked out of the room and looked at the three ragged boys outside.
These three boys had one thing in common: they had attractive, delicate features. The twisted adopter had likely picked them because of their looks.
The eldest among them was 17, just about to finish high school in a few months.
The younger one had his head down, appearing timid, but his hair was surprisingly silky.
The smallest one had rosy lips and a pair of big, expectant eyes.
Nan Huang approached them. As the older sister who had just met them, she wasn't the gentle type.
"When my mom adopts you, you need to learn how to do things and how to protect yourselves. Don't cause trouble for my mom."
She looked at the 17-year-old.
"Starting with you, take a shower, and I'll take you to the Xie family."
The 17-year-old finally lifted his head to look at her, his eyes tinged with shades of brown, quite handsome.
"Sis... sister..." His voice was clear and pleasant.
"What's your name?"
The boy hesitated for a moment, then spoke softly, "Sis... in the orphanage, we only had code names, not real names..."
Nan Huang suddenly had a flashback to the past, back to when she was young and had found Phoenix. He had been silent, only looking at her with wide eyes. In the end, she had given him a name.
Nan Huang collected her thoughts, looked at him, and said, "Never mind, the old names don't matter. From today onwards, you'll have new names."
She assigned names one by one, "You'll be Xie Wen, Xie Liang, and Xie Qian. I hope that from now on, you'll forget your past and become kind and considerate individuals."
The three boys simultaneously looked up, their eyes filled with complex emotions. Then, one by one, they called her "Sister."
"Sister...""Sis.""Sister."
After that, the three boys busied themselves. They helped Xie Wen wash up, and he quickly changed into the cleanest ragged clothes he had before following Nan Huang.
Nan Huang had a gentle smile on her face as she watched the three children, finally showing her warmth.
She handed the two bottles of wine to Xie Wen, who received them nervously.
"It's okay, just hold onto them," Nan Huang reassured him.
Xie Wen lowered his head slightly and mumbled, "Thank you, Sister."
Nan Huang drove Xu Qun's car with Xie Wen and headed to the city. She took him to get a haircut, bought him a new set of clothes, and then they proceeded to the Xie family's residence.
Sitting in the car, wearing his new clothes, Xie Wen was quite well-behaved, clutching the bottles of wine tightly.
Nan Huang cast a sidelong glance at him. He seemed to be a quiet and obedient child.
When they arrived at the entrance of the Xie family's residence, Xie Wen was visibly nervous and kept looking down.
Nan Huang softly advised, "Feel free to look around and observe. It's beneficial."
"Can I really look up?" Xie Wen asked hesitantly.
"Yes."
Xie Wen remained anxious. "But wouldn't that be impolite?"
Nan Huang turned her head and smiled gently, "It won't."
Xie Wen blushed slightly and nodded cautiously. Then he timidly began to look around.
The taxi arrived at the northern part of West City, an upscale private villa area. The security guard stopped them at the entrance, but after Nan Huang explained her purpose, they called the Xie family and allowed her entry.
Xie Wen was curious about this place, but he was still too nervous to look around.
Nan Huang whispered, "Take your time, observe as much as you can; it's good for you."
"Can I really look around?" Xie Wen asked, still unsure.
"Yes."
Xie Wen remained anxious. "But wouldn't that be impolite?"
Nan Huang turned her head and smiled gently, "It won't."
Xie Wen blushed slightly and nodded cautiously. Then he timidly began to look around.
As they drove deeper into the villa area, Nan Huang got out of the car, and Xie Wen followed suit, clutching the bottles of wine nervously.
At the entrance of the Xie family's mansion, the butler greeted them with a smile. "Miss, you're back!"
Several maids approached, equally joyful. "Miss, Miss is back!"
The butler and maids enthusiastically took the red wine from Xie Wen's hands and led Nan Huang into the house.
Xie Ziran came downstairs to welcome Nan Huang. When he saw her, he grinned, "Cousin! Finally, you've come back home!"
Nan Huang nodded in acknowledgment. "Do you have something you want from me?"
Teasingly, Xie Ziran said, "I'm your brother; how can you be so rude to me?"
Nan Huang stifled a laugh.
Xie Ziran led Nan Huang upstairs and asked, "Is Aunt not coming?"
Nan Huang shook her head.
Xie Ziran continued, "That's not surprising. Back then, because of that Ye Guangda, Grandfather and Aunt had a falling out. Aunt has a stubborn personality. When she got angry, she said that even if she had picked the wrong person, it had nothing to do with her. After that, the two of them had a big fight, and Grandfather eventually gave Aunt a generous dowry and asked her not to come back. So these two, both stubborn as mules, haven't seen each other for twenty years."
"I see," Nan Huang replied in understanding.
Xie Ziran added, "Actually, Grandfather really misses Aunt. Every year during the New Year, Aunt calls him, and Grandfather scolds her for bringing trouble upon herself. But in truth, every New Year's Eve, Grandfather holds onto his phone in the courtyard for a whole morning, just waiting for Aunt's call."
Nan Huang glanced at Xie Ziran, and at this moment, she truly felt a closeness to this man who was her cousin.
Xie Ziran noticed her gaze and turned around, playfully saying, "What
's this? Do you think your big brother looks handsome today?"
"You're overthinking it."
Xie Ziran chuckled and continued, "Let me tell you about the situation in the Xie family. Grandfather is getting old, and his health isn't great. After all, he's in his seventies and has accumulated many health issues. He has to get up seven or eight times at night to use the restroom. His kidneys aren't in good condition."
"In our generation, my father is the oldest, followed by Uncle Er, and then Aunt. When my father was thirty, he had an accident and became paralyzed from the waist down. Uncle Er, on the other hand, couldn't recover from the shock after Aunt's accident. So now, the Xie family isn't doing well. All the responsibilities are on me."
Xie Ziran smiled and said, "But my father may be paralyzed, but his mind is still sharp. Most of the decisions in the Xie family are made by him. I can only be considered a runner."
After that, Xie Ziran couldn't help but ask a question similar to Song Chu's, "Is it true that you and Bo Shen got divorced?"
Nan Huang smiled and replied, "Yes. Do you have a problem with that?"
"No, no problem at all. That scumbag, it's best that you divorced him. In the future, your big brother will find some outstanding and good men for you!"
