Chapter 9: Are You a Doctor?

Nan Huang arrived at the West City garbage dump.

The garbage dump was located in the desolate outskirts of West City, an area that had become barren due to the pollution caused by the garbage. There were very few people around.

On the outskirts of the garbage dump stood a semi-old three-story office building. Nan Huang entered the building, and inside, the employees seemed lethargic and disinterested.

A neatly dressed lady appeared in the building, drawing the attention of the people inside. A young man with a crew cut approached and asked, "Miss, do you have business here?"

Nan Huang asked, "Hello, is Mr. Xu Qun, the General Manager, here?"

The young man with the crew cut replied, "Mr. Xu is still in the hospital today and isn't here."

"In the hospital? Which hospital is he in?"

The young man with the crew cut looked at her cautiously, and Nan Huang smiled, saying, "Hello, I'm Ye Nan Huang, and Mr. Xu Qun is my uncle."

Only then did the young man with the crew cut answer her question.

Nan Huang got into the car, driven by Jiang Xin, and they headed towards the hospital.

Xu Qun had served in the military when he was young and had endured five days and nights in floodwaters during a flood rescue operation. While he had been saved from the flood, his legs had suffered long-term damage.

In his youth, the effects were not apparent, but now, after the age of forty, joint effusion and other issues had started to manifest.

Walking had become a luxury for him. His joints were getting increasingly swollen, and every step was excruciating. Today, he was going to the hospital to have the joint effusion drained.

When Nan Huang arrived at the hospital, she went directly to the orthopedic department, where Xu Qun was having a minor surgery.

A large syringe was inserted into his knee, and the accumulated fluid was slowly drawn out.

"Mr. Xu, I've told you many times already. You need to walk less and rest more with your legs like this," the doctor advised.

Xu Qun smiled and said, "People like me who are used to being busy, how can we stop?"

"Even if you can't stop, you have to. Do you still want to keep your legs in this condition?" the doctor warned.

Nan Huang knocked on the door, and both the doctor and Xu Qun turned to look. Xu Qun was momentarily stunned and said, "Xiao Yu? No, it's not. Who are you?"

Nan Huang walked in with a smile and said, "Uncle Qun, I'm Ye Nan Huang."

"Nan Huang? It's really you," Xu Qun said with a smile. "What brings you here?"

As Xu Qun spoke, he noticed the documents in her hand and suddenly realized, "Right, the garbage dump was originally yours. I know why you've come to find me now. I'll take care of it immediately. Ouch..."

He winced in pain.

The doctor immediately held him down and said, "The needle is still in your knee. Don't move."

Nan Huang placed the documents on the table and squatted in front of Xu Qun, watching his leg along with the doctor.

"I've had this issue with my leg for a long time now. It's nothing," Xu Qun said.

Nan Huang gently pressed his knee and looked up at Xu Qun with a smile. "It's a minor ailment. It can be treated."

The doctor chimed in, "Young lady, don't make unfounded claims. Bone diseases, though not life-threatening, are irreversible. They can't be completely cured, only controlled."

Nan Huang smiled and didn't interfere with the doctor's treatment.

Once Xu Qun's joint effusion was drained, his secretary helped him up, and Nan Huang followed Xu Qun out of the hospital, heading towards the parking lot.

Xu Qun and Nan Huang chatted along the way until they reached the parking lot, where they parted ways.

Jiang Xin's car was waiting silently in the parking lot. As Nan Huang walked through the parking lot, she suddenly heard a commotion.

"Someone, please help! Someone has collapsed!"

A young man in front of her looked panicked, and in front of him, an elderly person with silver hair leaned against a nearby car.

"Don't jostle her," Nan Huang said calmly as she approached. "This is a hospital, and there are plenty of doctors here. Please don't worry."

Nan Huang's voice was steady and soothing, and it made the young man look at her and ask, "Are you a doctor?"

Nan Huang replied, "Call the hospital. Ask the nurses and doctors to come over."

Saying that, she took out two silver needles from her small bag and inserted them into two acupuncture points on the elderly person's body.

The young man, seeing Nan Huang's smooth acupuncture technique and being at the hospital, subconsciously believed that she was a doctor who had finished her shift.

After making the call, he hurried to check on his grandmother. Seeing that her complexion had improved slightly, he felt relieved.

"You're a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctor?" The young man looked up at Nan Huang, who raised her face, leaving him momentarily stunned.

What he saw were her delicate and exquisite features, her wide and clear forehead, her straight and resilient nose, and her pitch-black eyes that seemed to be filled with the stars of the night. Her long eyelashes fluttered like a cluster of wings, stirring up a sea of stars.

Such beautiful eyes, possibly the most precious treasure in the world.

Nan Huang blinked her eyes lightly, and Song Zhuo, the young man, felt a slight twinge in his heart.

Nan Huang removed the silver needles and neatly stowed them back in her bag.

"The critical period for the elderly has passed. The doctor will be here soon. You can take her to the hospital now," Nan Huang said.

Song Zhuo hurriedly asked, "May I ask for your name, Doctor? Can we make an appointment with you in the future for TCM treatment?"

Nan Huang didn't respond and got up to leave.

Song Zhuo wanted to follow, but he had to stay with his grandmother, so he watched Nan Huang disappear from his view.

Doctors and nurses from the hospital rushed to the scene, along with medical equipment. The hospital director also arrived and said, "Young Master Song."

Song Zhuo looked at his grandmother and asked the doctor, "How is my grandmother?"

After examining her with medical instruments, the neurologist said, "This is a typical episode of a heart attack. She indeed experienced a heart attack just now. Strangely, the heart attack seems to have passed. What could have caused this?"

Another specialist turned to Song Zhuo and said, "We need to conduct a comprehensive examination on your grandmother."

Song Zhuo nodded. Then he asked, "Director Zhang, has a young TCM doctor in her early twenties recently joined the Traditional Chinese Medicine department of your hospital?"

Director Zhang shook his head and replied, "No, there hasn't been anyone new."

Song Zhuo thought for a moment. "Alright, I understand."

He took a brief glance but left a deep impression without even knowing her

name. As long as fate allowed, they would meet again sooner or later.

With that in mind, Song Zhuo followed the doctors, pushing his grandmother to undergo the examination.

After Nan Huang got into the car, she returned to the garbage dump along with Xu Qun's car.

Nan Huang wanted Xu Qun to rest, but he was very excited. Both of them wore masks, and with Xu Qun leaning on a cane, they toured various areas within the garbage dump and its processing facilities.

"We're developing large-scale waste sorting equipment," Xu Qun explained enthusiastically. "After we sort these garbage items, we can extract plastics, paper, petroleum, and even alloys."

Xu Qun's secretary chimed in, "We've also developed a recycling system. Once this system is launched, users can scan a QR code with WeChat and sell valuable recyclables at a reasonable price."

Xu Qun nodded and continued, "We're working on reducing the production cost of alloy detectors. Once we can develop this technology, users can sell their electronic devices directly to us. Then, our researchers can extract all the valuable precious metals from these electronic devices."
